ENBD Junior

ENBD Junior

November 2025

Overview

During an internal ENBD hackathon, our team explored how banks could evolve into family-focused financial ecosystems.
In one working day, we designed ENBD Junior: a companion experience to ENBDX that helps children build financial literacy through gamified learning and parent-guided rewards.
Our concept was placed Top 5 across the bank and was presented to the Group CEO.

The opportunity

Neobanks are rapidly capturing younger users, with many offering family and teen accounts.
At the same time, financial literacy among younger generations remains low, only 36% of Gen Z is financially literate.
We explored how banking could move beyond transactions and instead actively teach financial behavior from a young age.

This led us to explore a simple question:
What if banking for kids focused less on money, and more on behavior?

Concept: Family Tree Banking

ENBD Junior was designed as a child-facing extension of the ENBDX ecosystem for kids aged 8–12.
Parents manage permissions and rewards, while children interact through a simplified, gamified interface designed to build positive financial habits.

Designing Behavioral Finance

Instead of rewarding simple chores, we focused on behavioral growth and learning.
The core idea was to reward actions that build long-term financial habits, not everyday responsibilities.

Learn to Earn

The central feature of the experience is Learn to Earn.
Children complete short financial learning modules and receive points for progress. These points convert into monetary rewards configured by the parent.
Parents can define the value of points depending on their financial context.
For example:

  • 1 point = AED 10

  • or 1 point = AED 100

This allows the system to remain flexible across different household incomes.

AI Assistant for Kids

We integrated an AI chatbot powered by Gemini to support children as they learn.
The assistant helps explain financial concepts using simple language and relatable analogies, avoiding technical banking jargon.
It can answer questions such as:

  • “What is saving?”

  • “How do investments work?”

  • “Why should I not spend everything at once?”

Habit Building Through Tasks

Parents can also assign growth-oriented activities.
Examples include:

  • Volunteering activities

  • Helping siblings with schoolwork

  • Completing educational courses

  • Reading recommended books

Some tasks can be checked off easily, while others require proof through image or document uploads, or integration with learning platforms.
This creates a habit-building loop where positive behaviors translate into tangible rewards.

Gamified Motivation

To keep the experience engaging for children, points feed into a leaderboard system.
Importantly, the leaderboard displays points rather than monetary value, ensuring fairness across families with different financial backgrounds.
Children can also set personal savings goals, such as:

  • saving for a gaming console

  • buying event tickets

  • reaching milestone purchases

This introduces the idea of delayed gratification and financial planning.

Rapid Prototyping with AI

Given the one-day timeline, speed was critical. I used Figma Make to quickly generate components and build an interactive prototype.
This allowed us to move from concept to a polished, executive-ready demo within hours.

My Role

I was responsible for designing the entire child-facing experience, including:

  • Dashboard and navigation

  • Learn to Earn learning modules

  • Task and habit systems

  • Leaderboard and gamification

  • Savings goal experiences

  • AI chatbot interface

Another designer worked on the parent experience, while our teammate from the transformation team shaped the business case and research.
